On Friday, the company announced a partnership with Microsoft to develop a new ski-equipped snowboard for men and women that it says will be available to the public in 2018.
According to the company, hoodoo skis are “one of the most comfortable and stylish winter equipment in the world.”
The hoodoo is essentially a full-length ski, with a longer torso than traditional skis, but shorter than the ski-powered snowboard currently available.
Hoodoo skiers typically ride the ski and walk on the board.
In order to make the new ski, Hoodoo has partnered with Microsoft, which is offering its own snowboard platform that will allow the company to develop the ski in-house and then sell it to the ski company.
“With this partnership, we will be able to deliver the first hoodoo snowboard to customers as a fully-featured ski that is also as light as a conventional ski, and with the flexibility to adapt to any terrain and to meet any requirements,” Hoodoo cofounder and CEO, Kevin Cavanaugh, wrote in a blog post on Friday.
Hoodoo, which has been making skis for men for over a decade, said it will use a proprietary material, called “snowfoam,” to create the hoodoo.
The material was first used to build the ski’s internal structure.
It is a durable, lightweight, waterproof material that is “designed to perform well in harsh environments, such as winter, and in extreme weather conditions,” the company said.
The hoodoos are currently available only to those who own a hoodoo or ski-board.
However, the skis will also be available on Hoodoo’s website in 2018, with prices starting at $2,500.
