NZS Skiing NZ’s top five ski resorts are set to open in March, with more than 100 new ski lifts on the way.
Keystone Ski Resort is set to officially open March 14, and will be the largest ski lift in New Zealand to open since it was built in 2012.
The Lift One Ski Resort, which opened in October, is set for its second winter opening.
It will have an opening party on March 21.
More than 100 more lifts will open in New York, Washington DC, London, Paris and more cities.
In Australia, there will be eight lifts, including the new Lift One lift.
“We are confident Lift One is the best lift in Australia and the world, and it’s an exciting opportunity to have this lift in our backyards, on the slopes and on our trails,” said Mike Purdy, president and CEO of Lift One.
Purdy said it was the first lift in the world to open on the Gold Coast, with two more to be added.
Lift One will be operated by the NZS Skiers’ Association.
He said the lift was not the first to open at a new location, with New Zealand-based Lift One opening in December.
Its opening will also be seen as a validation of the new lift-based resort system, which is the first ski lift system to be certified by the International Ski Federation.
Under the new system, lifts can be rented out by the day, or can be opened at the same time, which will help to reduce crowds.
There will be lifts for snowboarding, mountain biking, mountain sledding and snowboarding-related recreation, and ski lifts for skiing and snowboarding, Purdy said.
With the lift’s opening, the NZ SAs biggest resort in the country will have a full complement of ski lifts, allowing guests to be closer to their destination than at other lifts.
Mountain resorts around the world have also added lifts, and Purdy believes the new NZS system is a step in the right direction.
But he said the NZ ski industry still has work to do to make sure the lifts work in the long term.
New Zealand’s ski industry has struggled to adapt to the arrival of ski tourism and the new lifts are not going to fix that, he said.
“We’re not going away,” Purdy added.
“But we’re moving in the direction of having more lifts, more of the quality of life lifts in our communities.”
