The LADDIE PASS Ski Resort, a resort in Colorado that is owned by ski operator Laddies, is not for the faint-hearted.
Its tough-guy name is a nod to its rugged mountain terrain, but it’s also an allusion to its legendary skiing history.
The ski area is one of the first to be developed in the United States, in 1919.
Its first lift was built by the US Army and later by the Canadian company Haldane.
A few years later, the ski area was the site of the infamous Blackout of 1919, when a severe thunderstorm left thousands of people without power and caused massive damage.
The resort was closed for months and many residents of Laddiks home state of Colorado suffered for weeks.
In 1921, it was reopened, and it was here that Laddielas skiers, snowboarders and ice-skating team, the Laddieries, made their name.
Laddiefer skiing has also been credited with the formation of the sport.

The first lift at LADDY PASS was built in 1919 by the US Army and was eventually leased by Haldane, who owned the land and was planning to build an ice-cream stand.
The second lift was opened in 1925, and in 1935, the US Government decided to develop the area.
In the 1950s, it became a resort for the US Air Force.
