Wisp Ski Resort will be closed in 2018, according to the owners.
The company posted a notice on its Facebook page on Tuesday that read: “Due to a change in our plans for 2018, we will be closing Wisp Resort this summer.”
The statement from Wisp, which has operated the resort since the 1970s, said that “due to changes in our vision for our business and the changing landscape of the ski industry, we have decided to make a difficult and necessary change in the future.”
It also said the resort’s “future is uncertain,” saying that it will be sold “at a future date” to a new owner.
The announcement comes a few months after Wisp announced it was closing its ski resort in Lake Louise, British Columbia.
The company, which operates in nine provinces and territories, said in December it would close the resort in 2018.
The ski resort’s owner, David Sorenson, has been outspoken in recent months about the effects of climate change.
He recently wrote an open letter to the governor of British Columbia and said he was planning to build a hotel in Vancouver.
He also recently told The Associated Press he was considering building a second ski resort on the same property.
